L-3 Introduces SmartDeck® Computer Based Training

Pilots to benefit from comprehensive system overview before first flight

NBAA ANNUAL CONVENTION, ORLANDO, Fla., October 6, 2008 – L-3 Avionics Systems announced today the development of a SmartDeck Computer Based Training (CBT) program which will be available in early 2009. The program will enable new SmartDeck system pilots to
familiarize themselves with the system’s numerous features and benefits before making their initial flights; it was developed by Pegasus Interactive, a leading provider of aviation training software.

“This software makes it easier for pilots to transition to flying SmartDeck-equipped aircraft because it closely simulates their actual flying experience,” said Larry Riddle, vice president of business development for L-3 Avionics Systems. “The software also incorporates proven e-learning techniques to accelerate learning.”

The SmartDeck system CBT utilizes scenario-based, guided simulation to train new pilots, a method demonstrated to deliver higher retention rates than other electronic training formats. The system features hands-on, visual-based training that augments the SmartDeck Pilot’s Guide. Pilots first go through narrated demonstrations, then apply the concepts on a virtual SmartDeck system. Training modules are divided by the different phases of flight and the software tracks progress. More than 70 topics are included.

Realistic visuals, narration and simulation are key elements of the training software, which is distributed on DVD ROM to allow for optimum multimedia performance. The SmartDeck System’s FAA certified software was used to produce the CBT.
